I've not ridden in a long time. How will
I do?
The Katy is a rails-to-trails project. It is an old railway line that
has been converted into a state park. Trains do not handle hills very
well, so the
trail has no hills, none. That is good news for young and old alike.
You will never have a hill to climb. You can simply enjoy yourself!
Is there much too see?
Take a look at the images on every page of this site. But please note,
the images don't come close to doing the trail justice! You will see
the bluffs, the river, the trees and the wildlife. There are small towns,
special events(call us) 636.987.2673, and of course the wineries.
What about large groups?
We have the largest fleet of bikes on the Katy. We also offer group
rates. Just call ahead to ensure your bikes are reserved. We have
a large picnic area in the back of our shop and we can help also help
with catering. We simply cannot think of a better place to have a fun,
safe, and relaxing company, school, or family outing.
The trail is gravel?
Yes, but it is smooth. It is very hard. Until you ride it, you won't
believe how smooth it is. You can ride in comfort on balloon tires,
or tires as narrow as 700 x 35C in complete comfort. Don't worry about
the "gravel".
Do I really want to visit a winery?
We often hear that folks don't think they can enjoy themselves at a
winery and make it back. Well, Sugar Creek winery is only a couple of
miles down the road from our shop. It's an easy ride there and back.
There is often music and other events at the wineries, so take a nice
ride, drink sensibly, and you will have no problems. In fact, it makes
a visit to the winery far more fun when you can enjoy the trail on the
way there and back.
Can I get help planning a ride?
You bet! Gives us a call at 636.987.2673, or e-mail
us. We will be happy to answer any questions you have and we keep up
on special events at wineries and small towns around us.
Can
I bring my own bike?
Of course. The Katy is a state park open to everyone. We just make it
easy for you. No hassles packing your bike or even planning for that
matter. We can provide everything you need for a wonderful day on the
trail. The trail can get your bike pretty dusty though. However, that's
just another reason to rent from us. We get to clean the bikes, not
you!
What if I have a flat or break down?
Well it does happen, but not often. Our bikes are well maintained which
helps. But if it does happen, we have several points along the trail
where we can pick you up. Also, bikers are just great folk. Someone
will always help out.
